What is Air Duct Cleaning and Should it be Done?
- Michael from Chino Valley
Indoor air pollution is an issue of growing concern. Many of our HVAC member companies now market products and services that intend to improve the quality of your indoor air. Duct cleaning refers to the cleaning of supply and return air ducts and registers, grills and diffusers and in some cases the cleaning of various HVAC components. Methods of duct cleaning vary, however most providers use specialized equipment to remove dirt and other debris from the ducts, and then a confined vacuum is used with a high powered motor to contain the dislodged dirt. Keep in mind, duct cleaning does not prevent health problems. Dirty air ducts are only one of the sources where pollutants enter the home. If you think that duct cleaning might be a good idea for your home, it is important to talk with a provider and ask questions. Whether or not you decide to have your duct work cleaned, it is always a good idea to change your air filters regularly. Make sure your HVAC system is serviced regularly with a cleaning of the coils and drain pans. It is more important to make sure your duct work is sealed properly therefore you will prevent duct and pollution from entering the home and will also prevent energy dollars from leaving your wallet.
